Games written by my students in 4-6 weeks ( The exe files are for PC's, the app files are for Mac. Download and unzip the file that will run on your computer) We have computer class 45 minutes a day. The first week, I have the students write a few conventional programs (Hello World, area of a rectangle, etc) to get used to programming and the IDE. The second week we learn about moving players, graphics, skinning and detecting collisions. They have to turn in a maze game by the end of the week. The third week we cover drag and drop, collecting items, random events, timers and score keeping. They have to turn in an educational game The fourth week we cover game loops, moving terrain and moving targets. They have two weeks to then turn a final game (live action game) with the following:
They do all of the above in 4-6 weeks depending on the schedule. None of them ever programmed before. The two weeks before, we did HTML and they created websites to get used to creating on the computer instead of just surfing. It got them in the mindset of editing-testing-editing. All the programs and games can be found at http://erhs.shaosean.tk Here are a few of the programs and games my students have written. Save The Bird - A cute 3 level game to fly a bird to the finish, collecting cherries for points. You never die, you just get sent back to the start. This was written by a 13 year old girl within 4 weeks. In that period, she also wrote a maze game, an educational game and a few other programs. Rocket - Fly through space, collecting stars but avoiding moving objects. This was also written by a girl. Her original game was a Dr Who game where you flew the Tardis through space. She changed it to a rocket. Drake Date Night - Ever wonder what is on the mind of a 13 year old girl? This is a cute little game. You will enjoy watching Drake dance and in the hospital. vCalculator - This is an advanced calculator created by a 16 year old boy. It has an on/off switch, paper tape and advanced features. MySites - This is an app to make his commonly visited sites easily available. This student wanted to access webpages from within LiveCode |
